Detecting Hydro-Insulation Leakage on Wet Surfaces

Installation technology violations, mechanical damage that occurs during operation, or simply the natural aging of materials - all these factors lead to defects in the hydro-insulating layer, which eventually results in leaks.

Often, leakage detection is neglected, so only a visual inspection of the roof is performed, which is only conditionally suitable for detecting damage and assessing its severity and allows to identify only 10-20% of defects. This eventually results in the need to renovate the waterproofing layer or even replace it completely.

In order to avoid excessive spending on major repairs, it is necessary to perform regular inspections to detect hydro-insulation damage. There are many methods and technologies that allow you to detect any localized waterproofing damage quickly and accurately.

EUROROOFING professionals perform roof leakage detection using highly accurate Buckleys' Wet Roof Pro flaw detector.

The Wet Roof Pro was developed by Buckleys UVRAL Ltd, a British company specializing in the production of test and measurement equipment for leakage detection on flat roofing systems such as dielectric flat roofing membranes, bitumen coatings, etc. The flaw detector uses the "vector mapping" method or the principle of defect detection by tracing the flow of an electric current across the membrane surface to localize the leakage. With the help of Wet Roof Pro, it is possible to check up to 400 m² of the roof surface in one day.

The leak detection is carried out on the wet roof surface. Wet Roof Pro utilizes the conductive properties of water to help the operator locate the leak. This method is also known as vector mapping.

The Wet Roof Pro kit consists of two main elements - the generator unit and the detector unit. The generator unit creates an electric field across the surface of the roof through the ground wire, which is located around the perimeter of the test area and connected to the positive terminal on the generator unit. Leaks in the roof membrane allow water to penetrate the building structure, causing a short circuit. The detector unit is connected to two manual test probes held by the operator in contact with the roof surface.

By measuring the voltage difference between the test probes with the detector unit, we can locate the leakage spot with 100% accuracy.

The instrumental diagnostics technology of hydro-insulation integrity allows to ensure careful operation of the roof, eliminating the risk of leaks and significantly reducing the cost of subsequent roof repairs.
