Company History

1928-1960: Evolution of the Hardware Store and Commencement of Production

SFS has a rich history dating back to 1928 when it first opened its doors as a hardware store in Altstetten.

In 1949, under the leadership of Hans Huber, the company opened a new branch in Herbrugze.

By 1960, SFS had begun production and introduced the first double-pressure parts, marking a significant milestone in its history.

1961-1976: Production Development and Expansion

In 1966, SFS introduced multi-stage technology with the production of the engine screw, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and advancement. By 1970, the company had implemented infrastructure projects at its production and office locations in Rosenbergsau. In 1978, SFS registered its brand for the very first time. The company achieved its first global breakthrough in 1979 with the stainless steel drill development and production. In 1983, SFS acquired Sela Ltd. and Linread Ltd. in Great Britain, enabling the production of screws. Three years later, in 1986, SFS developed the HandwerkStadt network of offices in Switzerland. In 1987, SFS acquired Sassba in Italy, starting the door and window hinges production and sale.

1991-2006: Diversification of the Technological Portfolio

In 1996, SFS acquired the Ego plastic manufacturing plant in Altstetten and implemented plastic injection molding technology. In 2001, the company acquired HB Plastics GmbH, which had factories in Austria and Hungary, as well as construction fasteners with offices in the USA and Canada. In 2002, SFS unified its production and trade activities under the SFS intec and SFS unimarket brands. In 2005, the company introduced deep drawing technology with the acquisition of Lüdi AG in Switzerland and acquired K-Plast AB in Sweden.

2007-2012: Expansion into the Asian and North American Markets

In 2007, SFS acquired 50% of Dekim Metal (TR), which later rebranded as SFS intec. The year 2008 saw the acquisition of GESIPA® GmbH, a leading supplier of rivets with offices in Germany, Great Britain, and the USA, as well as a 50% stake in Sunil SFS intec Automotive. In 2012, SFS acquired Unisteel Technology Ltd., headquartered in Singapore, with further production sites in MY and CN, specializing in the miniature parts production. Additionally, SFS acquired a controlling stake in SFS intec (TR) and a 45% stake in Indo Schöttle (IN).

2013–present: IPOs, strengthening in medical technology, and meeting new demands

In 2014, the SFS group became listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and acquired a controlling stake in Indo Schöttle (IN), which has production sites in Pune and Belgaum. In 2016, the company continued to expand its position in the medical technologies sector by acquiring Stamm AG (CH) and Tegra Medical (USA). In 2018, SFS Group introduced a new motto that reflects the company's foundation, "Creating success together". Additionally, the SFS intec and SFS unimarket brands merged, now operating under the unified name SFS.
